What is your birthplace/nationality?
Paris, France
What is your birth date?
1954
Where do you currently reside/work?
En Guadeloupe F.W.I. (Caraïbes).
What part of your biography do you feel should be highlighted in your PR?
When I was a naturalist photographer, nature imposed contents of my photos, I just needed to fix the emotion. When I became an advertising photographer, all was opposed at this past work. With advertising, all is directed and controlled, all is artificial, glamour, the emotion is calculated.
All that is very paradoxical but I like these two contradictions, I like to make balance between these two emotionals contradictions.
How has your culture of origin influenced your artwork?
Between Ernst Haas, Cheyco Leidmann, Lucien Clergue and Helmut Newton, they don’t have the same creative current. However
these great photographers gave me much, probably their specificvision and their bias. Dali and Magritte definitively convinced me that parallel worlds exist. I found my emotions in their work, they forged my paradoxical thoughts.
What was the hardest point in your artistic journey ?
The doubts are often tougher than the certainties. a singer said one day that a sky without cloud doesn’t have any value, no direction, that nature could find its energy only in a stormy sky ...
What would you like your art to accomplish?
I don’t like to impose a glance on my photographs. There is not a better reward when somebody speaks to me about his own interpretation, his own vision of my photographs and when it is different from my initial idea. That proves just that I achieved my objectives ; To create a parallel world.
Alain Lacki draws the viewer in to his mysterious world of natural surrealism with visually stunning photographs of the truly impossible but seemingly real. Lacki utilizes visual imaging techniques to alter, transform, and often combine his photographs with the dexterity and creativity of a master painter.
The artist’s perceptive eye discovers beauty throughout the world around him, from the sensual curve of the female figure, to the glistening of a dewdrop upon a spider’s web. Through the camera lens, he captures this natural splendor only to enhance it through careful manipulation with digital imaging software. For Lacki, the computer mouse functions as a paintbrush or sculptors chisel, modeling, shaping, and giving life to a new image inspired by nature, but conceived in his rich imagination.
An accomplished artist, Alain Lacki also works as a wildlife and advertising photographer. He has exhibited his work in Europe in Paris, Brussels, Arles, and on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.
How to describe Alain Lacki ; Of Polish aristocratic origin, born in Paris, having drifted in Africa (animal photos), taught Paris (advertising photo) and living today in Guadeloupe. He is 52 years old and soaks in the photo for 30 years. (...)
Few exhibitions in his asset and we regret him. As if his artwork was just a work on one, as if its artistic expression was only one excuse if need be calculated by the advertising photography.
“Alain Lacki is rare”; Paule Adeline-Vieillescazes said it of him in 1989 in the magazine “Marie Claire” on the occasion of an exhibition in Paris. He is indeed rare and precious because he gets free of his work a strong emotional feeling.
The artwork immerses us in an unknown dimension but what we believe to know. The eye not liking the uncertainty of the worlds which are foreign to him, obliges to place them in a space-time which is convenient for him and which reassures him. There is urgency to discover him.
